The system and structure of "tithing" is described in detail in the Torah, from which the first

five books of the Christian bible are translated. Judaism teaches tithing. As with so many other

teachings, each individual Jew is guided by his own conscience in his level of observance of the

commandments. Now, in the 21st century, many Jews do practice tithing, as well as less formal

systems of routine charitable giving.

Yes. We are commanded to give one tenth of our income (after taxes) to the charity or charities of our choice (see Genesis 28:22). In Israel, there is also an agricultural tithe of crops given to the Levites (see Numbers 18:25-26).

Who are the people that pays a tithe?

The Israelites were commanded to give a tithe to the poor and a separate tithe to the Levites. The Levites were allotted no portion of the land itself, so they partook of the tithe that was given (Numbers ch.18). They served as Torah-scholars (Deuteronomy ch.33) and assisted in the Temple (but did not offer up the sacrifices, which was done only by the kohanim). The newborn of flocks were also tithed (Leviticus ch.27). Today, in the absence of the Holy Temple, Jews tithe their income for the poor.

What does Deuteronomy chapter 26 verse 12 mean?

Deu 26:12 "Every third year give the tithe---a tenth of your crops---to the Levites, the foreigners, the orphans, and the widows, so that in every community they will have all they need to eat. When you have done this, The Jews were to offer a second tithe, called the festival tithe, which was to be shared with the Levite, the stranger, the fatherless, and the widow every third year. This tithe was to be distributed to the needy in their own towns.

Should Jews give tithes to their Rabbi?

No. Jews do not tithe because they have no Temple or priesthood. Tithes only went to Levites and priests. Rabbis were neither. True holy biblical tithes were always only food from inside God's holy land of Israel. Therefore nobody can tithe today. Modern tithing is a scam and a lie and was never commanded to the church. Another answer: according to halakha (Jewish law), one should give one-tenth of one's net income to charity.
