You can never tell how big or small a Chihuahua pup will be when it is mature. Breeders who sell tea cup chihuahua's are ripping you off. All Chihuahua puppies will most likely fit into a teacup when they are 6 weeks old. I have 3 Adult Chihuahua's weighing 4, 5, and 8lbs. They were each about the size of a coke can when I bought them and they all fit into the palm of my hand.

If you have kids should you get a Chihuahua?
As a breeder, I hesitate to sell my Chihuahuas to people with small children. It has been my experience, with my own grand children when they were small, they are not always the most gentle handed when it comes to holding tiny puppies. Accidents do happen, and small children have been known to hold a pup or kitten by the tail, neck, or whatever they can get their hands on first. This can be a cute picture, but not so cute if in the process the pup is injured or killed. Children do this trick the two seconds your attention is diverted away from them. Thus, my hesitation to sell to the above mentioned family. Just some more FYI, Chihuahuas are born with a fontanel, ( a hole in the cranium bones), just like human babies. If the puppy is dropped, even the distance from the couch to the floor, it can cause a cracked skull possibly killing the puppy in the process. A larger dog is suggested for families with small children. Chihuahua's should always be supervised when with children, or outside, or when with other pets. It only takes a moment for something to happen. I also must add that Chihuahua's are very loving and affectionate, but if they feel threatened or get hurt they are like any other dog...they can and will bite. My chihuahua was raised with teenagers, and she didn't really like small children. When my grand daughter was born I was pleasantly suprised at how my chihuahua handled it. I prepared my chihuahua by letting her smell the baby and her blankets...they are now best budddies. Even with that said...I always supervise them. Too much can happen, my chihuahua or my grand daughter could easily get hurt. I know that neither would hurt the other intentionally...but both are so small and fragile.
