Get a new cap or truck that will match
Start by getting a manual for it and looking for the symptons your truck seems to have. Replace your plugs, plug wires, distributor cap and rotor, and pcv valve. Then check for good/clean fuel pump, and air cleaner. Also, when I got my 83 pu, the ignition timing was way off, so check it and make sure it's correct.

possibly the wire from the coil to the cap, or a cracked distrib. cap, or a worn rotor, have you checked your ignition module?
