Yes, when members sign up, they are asked to provided the categories or areas that they are interested. Whenever possible tasks will be picked form these categories or areas. Tasks are always more fun if they are on a topic that is interesting to the SPA!
However, sometimes it is not always possible to find tasks from specific areas. In these cases tasks are picked from categories that are as close to their choices as possible. Sometimes, SPAs are also asked to work on special tasks, or tasks that are not category specific.

We try to limit the amount of categories because we want people to put the questions into the most specific category, and not leave them in a lot of more general categories. It doesn't always work perfectly, but it usually is okay.

Yes. Many people work on it and help to change and improve answers and do many other jobs, like putting questions into their correct categories if they are in inappropriate ones. There is a very active group of volunteers that collectively work on many things and there are special groups that work on particular tasks together.

I'm a little confused about your question so i think a police officer CAN NOT pick you up at work because the police officer might pick you up at work and then he/she might get a call and he/she will have to go with you and take you where you want to go but he/she wont have time because she/he will have to go deal with the problem that he has at work. OR They could take you to where you want to go if they pass right by you if you need to get somwhere and you dont want to walk because it is miles away because im sure i would NOT call 911 just so they can give you a ride to pick you up at work im sure you would get in trouble. In an assembly line balancing problems, the analyst should take note the tasks' orders and which tasks must precedes other tasks (precedence constraint), Because without that the balancing would be meaningless.
