You dont have to pull any axel
Yes, you must pull both axles to change any transmission, Mazda or not.
You've got to pull the axles. take the big nut off the end of the half axles at the hub/steering knuckle. pull the axle out of the hub. Then take a big BIG prybar and pry the axle out of the transmission. Put a short length of broom handle in the transmission after you pry the axles out to keep the side gears from falling down into the case. You DONT want that.
the backing plate on the rearend has to come off and there are C -clips that you have to pull out of each axle where they mesh with the gears inside the rearend and then you can pull the axles out.
take off the wheel. unbolt the 2 lower strunt bolts, to swing the brake assembly out, pull that end of the axel out, then give the axel a good pull out and it should pop out of the transmission.
Pull pumpkin cover pull tires and brake and brake brakets...pull center carrier pin push axles in pull axle keepers pull axles out pop seals out put new seals in....do all steps in revers
Well, you either go to a CAT scale, which weighs each groups of axles separately, or, if you're on a scale which only shows gross weight, then you axle out. You drive onto the scale and stop with only your steer axle on the scale. Then you write down that weight, and pull forward until your drive and steer axles are both on the scale. Then you write down that weight, and subtract the weight of your steer axle to get the weight on your drive axles. Then you pull forward until all axles are on the scale. This will be your gross weight, and you subtract the weight you got when you had the drive and steer axles on the scale in order to get the weight on your trailer axles.
It is easier to take the engine out the top with the transmission. You need to disconnect the trans from the axles and also disconnect everything else that will prevent the engine/trans from coming out. That includes, wires, hoses, etc. Once out, you can unbolt your trans from the engine and slide it out.
If you have an automatic no leave the transmission in the car.If you have a standard yes because it easier to pull the engine and trans together on a standard. Check out my repair videos here. http://www.youtube.com/user/richpin06a
they both come out together through the top much easier it is possible but it is easyer to pull them both out.
no you have to pull out axles first or it will ruin trans
For the main seal you need to split the engine and transmission, whether it's pull the engine or drop the transmision, it's up to you. Then remove the torque converter and pop out the old seal and put in a new one. For the axle seals, you need to pull the axles.
Pull the transmission and change it. The torque converter is inside the bell housing on the front of the transmission. Only way to get it out is to pull the transmission.
