It is a real pain to get at. I have a 2005 Cobalt SS Supercharged 2L. My son has the Cobalt Coupe 2.2L. The oil filter is located under the hood on the right front side of the engine. You have to reach under the supercharger to access the canister. I use a 30mm socket and a 15" extension to my rachet to get at the top of the cannister. Be careful where you put the extension as there appears to be only one access spot that will give you a direct vertical access to the socket once it is on the nut housing. Also be careful you do not loose the socket in behind the filter canister. There is a gap between the engine and the supercharger where the socket can fall into if it slips out of your hand. It is a pain to retreive. I use my left hand to hold the socket through the opening under the supercharger and feed the extension down through the opening and connect the socket and extension at that point so the socket does not slip and then put the socket onto the nut housing of the canister. A few turns and the top is off. Reverse the proceedure to remove the socket. Put your left hand under the supercharger to remove the canister lid. It is a bit of a pain. Keep a rag handy as the lis will drip oil. The filter cartridge may come out with the lid but I find it easier to remove the cartridge seperately. There is not a lot of room to work under the supercharger. Once you have done it once you will find it gets easier. Put a new cartridge in with the point down and replace the lid. re-feed the socket and the extension to tighten the lid and remove the socket (without dropping it) and you are done! Add your oil reset the computer, check your oil level and you are good to go.
