It depends on where you live, with 4 seasons weather you'd start applying in March till 2nd frost around end of Oct or early Nov. Early March the eggs start hatching, so start then. In warm humid areas, year round. Check with your vet also

Do you worm or de flea your cat first?

It really depends on how often you use flea or worming treatment on your cat. Generally speaking, you only need to worm twice a year if it is an adult cat, and some flea treatments advise to use their treatments once a month, although some owners will only use flea treatments once every couple of months. Essentially, it doesn't really matter what treatment you use first on your cat.

Where do fleas go when it gets cold outside?

During the winter fleas tend to seek the nearest source of warmth. It can be in a house, or on pets. Each flea can lay up to 20,000 microscopic eggs everyday. If you see a flea on your pet, then its a safe bet that in a week or so there will be thousands more. I would recommend if you have pets, strictly indoor or not, that they be on a year round flea and tick prevention.

Can dogs have allergies to flea bites?

They absolutely can! Veterinarians call this "flea bite dermatitis". In this type of condition, the saliva of the flea causes an allergic reaction in the dog. This is quite common, and can result in a dog feeling quite uncomfortable and itchy. The best solution? Using flea products from your veterinarian, including advantage or revolution. Flea medications purchased from pet stores are less effective and less controlled. Certain flea medications from your veterinarian (such as Advantage) can kill the flea on contact, so the flea doesn't even need to bite the animal to die. Other medications kill when the flea feeds, but prevents full-blown flea problems by killing adult fleas and flea larva. For dogs that have this condition, it is beneficial to keep the dogs on these types of medications whenever they are at high risk to getting fleas. Since dogs can get fleas all year round, some owners may choose to keep their pets on a flea control throughout year. Nutrition and supplements that help to maintain healthy skin and coat can also be used to reduce the symptoms.

You may apply all year round, but there are deadlines for each semester. Each semester changes so I would look at the technical school closest to you to find a deadline that works for you,

Do you have to apply frontline during the winter months?

This will depend upon whom you want to talk to, and how much risk you are willing to accept in terms of flea and tick infestation. The closer to the equator you get, the more likely you'll need to apply flea/tick preventive (such as Frontline) to your pets. This is because locations closer to the equator have less distinct temperature differences throughout the year, so it is more likely fleas and ticks will be active throughout the year. Also, the more active your pet is outside, the more likely you'll need to apply Frontline throughout the year to prevent a flea or tick infestation. Even in the dead of winter, if you get a few warm days in a row some ticks may emerge and attach to your pet. The company certainly recommends applying Frontline year-round. This boosts sales for them, as well as helps to protect against liability suits for treatment failure. It also takes into account the typical human behaviors of forgetting to do something when you take a break from it - a fair number of owners will intend to start applying Frontline again on March 1, but may not actually apply it until May 15 because they keep forgetting about it until they see a tick on their dog. However, veterinarians in temperate zones may recommend only applying from the start of spring through the first hard freeze of the fall, unless the pet will be traveling to a warmer climate over the winter months.
