It also covers advanced medical devices like manual defibrillators and assumes the participants are comfortable with peripheral venous catheter insertion and tracheal intubation. ACLS takes the team-based concepts from BLS and greatly expands them, as ACLS can only be performed in a team setting. The AHA grants course participants a certificate good for two years upon successful completion of the course.
