The o/d if left on will usually come on around 70 to 80 KMS ( 45 to 50 MPH ). Then the torque lock up will come on after that.
2011 Is the last model year of the Mercury Grand Marquis
YES , a 1990 Mercury Grand Marquis 5.0 liter V8 engine has a PCV valve ( Motorcraft part number EV-98-B ) going into the intake manifold
Not too familiar with your particualr vehicle, but I will try to offer a few suggestions. Some vehicles come with overdrive switches in the cab that allow you to shut the overdrive off. These can short out. Your tranny might also have a selenoid that's going bad or perhaps you just need to flush the tranny out.
it's your headlight switch
Overdrive is the normally allowed position , but unless you are going fast enough it will not shift into overdrive because it acts as the " top " gear ( on my Explorer I have to be going 50 miles per hour / 80 kilometers per hour before it shifts into overdrive )
That, or the gauge is going. Or a loose wiring connection. I'd bet on the last.
Transmission fluid is low or viscosity is degrading. Add a bottle of lubricant restorer (cheap) or have the fluid changed. (not so cheap)
why does the 1991 Lincoln towncars transmission not have overdrive?Instead of going into overdrive it seems to go into neutral. But if you take it out of overdrive and leave it in drive it never goes into neutral while I'm driving.
No
The overdrive is before the drive because as you ordinarly drive down the road your car automaticaly goes into overdive when you reach a certain speed. You use drive only when you are pulling a trailer or going up a large hill so it won't go into overdrive and put undo work on the transmission or motor. It is also a gas saving factor.
not overdrive... it depends how fast ur going
The transmission defaults to overdrive, as well as enabling the 4th gear. There is a button on the end of the shifter that disables overdrive for times when it is rapid switching between 3/4th gear due to a certain speed etc. It can also be disabled to assist going up large hills for example or by improving engine braking properties. For normal use OD should be left on as is.
