I HAVE NEVER CHANGED PISTONS IN AN Audi, BUT IN AMERICAN CARS YES AND WE HAVE HAD PLENTY OF BAD PISTONS AND WE DIDN'T ALWAYS CHANGE ALL OF THEM, ONLY THE ONES THAT NEEDED CHANGING. ANOTHER FACTOR IS BASED ON THE MILEAGE ON THAT (ENGINE). MY BEST GUESS IS ,IF THE ENGINE HAS LESS THAN 100K MILES CHANGE ONLY THE ONES THAT NEED CHANGING. UNLESS ITS MORE THAN HALF OF THE AMOUNT OF PISTONS IN THE ENGINE, CHANGE ONLY THE BAD ONES, IF YOU ARE DOING IT YOURSELF. A GARAGE MAY WANT TO REBUILD THE WHOLE ENGINE, MAINLY FOR WARRENTY PURPOSES. GOOD LUCK. I HOPE THIS HELP SOME.
If the pistons are bad it should be smoking a bright blue color out of the exhaust. Are if a piston skirt is broken it should be knocking all the time. If there is a whole burnt in the piston you will not have any compression on that cylinder. Most of the time pistons just don't go bad.
Because it is not firing all pistons due to a bad spark plug
The official site of the Detroit Pistons has a list that counts down the top 100 Detroit Pistons of all-time. Number one is Isiah Thomas. Here is the site's description:"1. Isiah Thomas - Leader of the Bad Boys. Two World Championships. The face of the organization. All-time Pistons leader in points, assists and steals. Only wore a Pistons uniform during his Hall of Fame career."

if its 1 and 4 or 2 and 3 its a bad coil.
The Detroit Pistons
Pistons are a major part of the engine and if one goes bad there ain't no fixing a piston, replacement is necessary.
It changes the TIMING.
You probably have bad rings in at least one of your pistons.
Chemical Change Only
ONLY when they go bad. Not untill.
It is possible in a Lincoln V8 for only four cylinders to be working if one bank of lifters and pistons is frozen. In an older vehicle that has been sitting for quite a while, the lifters and pistons might have seized up. It is also possible that the coil is bad and only sending power to four cylinders instead of eight.
