Technically, Yes.
But you can removed the heater core without removing the HVAC unit and the AC Lines if you cut the old heater core lines at the top with a hack saw. Then the core will slide straight up and out of the HVAC unit. The new heater core has swivel mounted hoses that can be placed in the old positions when reassembling the dash.

Yes you will need to completely drain the freon system to replace the heater core and do not cut the case, this will destroy the a/c and heater housing and you will have a water leak on the passengers side that you will not be able to stop.........
