It is usually a reasonable amount if the Lodge you are joining belongs to a regular Grand Lodge, and covers the cost of your apron, your copy of the Lodge by-laws and constitution and similar expenses. Watch out, as there are con artists who fake Masonic Lodges to sucker you out of fake initiation fees. Your best guarantee that you are getting into a real lodge is the character of the men who are sponsoring your membership.
