You request it when your recruiter takes you to MEPS, and you talk to a career counselor.
Unfortunately, this is a (potentially) medically disqualifying condition. However, the doctor at the Military Entrance Processing Station (MEPS)will make that determination. Your local recruiter can have your medical records for this condition prescreened by the doctor at the MEPS for you to find a preliminary ruling in your particular situation.
Yes, an Irish person has to take an oath of allegiance to the British crown if they decide to join the British Army.
No. You may contact a recruiter online, but you cannot actually join online. Your enlistment isn't finalised until you go to the MEPS station, speak with a career counselor, and sign a contract there at MEPS - nothing you sign from the recruiters themselves actually obligates you to serve in the military.
When you go to MEPS prior to enlistment, you'll take the ASVAB - Armed Services Vocational Aptitude Battery. It's a placement test, which will determine which occupations you're eligible to serve in. Reading comprehension, math skills, and coding speed are some of the tests administered. You can take the ASVAB test prior to going to MEPS, if you wish to do so. The only one which counts is the one you take at MEPS, so if you take it prior to MEPS and get a low score, it won't affect you. If your school doesn't offer it, then you can contact a recruiter about getting you enrolled for the ASVAB.
Yes, a reason is MEPS needs to make sure you are legal in the US.
