An ABS fault.
Check the abs wheel speed sensors. Or the abs module could be bad
No , ABS is the anti-lock brake system
Its located on your differential
Could be anything from an ABS system fuse , sensor etc . malfunction
Change the abs motor.
4 wheel ABS brakes are standard on the Mercury Mountaineer in 1999
No abs on the 97.
If the ((ABS)) Light is on then it's a good thing indicating that the Antilock brakes sensor is in good condition. I too have a 2002 mountaineer
The passenger side of the motor is bank 1
What I did was find the correct fuse for for the ABS motor and remove the fuse . the abs light will stay on but this did it for me. or find the motor just in front of the master cylinder and unplug it.
The ABS pump motor relay is not serviceable. It is part of the ABS modulator valve.
