use new pads and shims, repack wheel bearings and replace grease seals, set factory bearing tension, and resurface/replace rotors.
No, you can remove and/or replace the front rotors on your Jeep Liberty without having to repack the wheel bearings. To remove the rotor, remove the brake caliper, and then pull the rotor straight off the wheel studs. If the rotor doesn't budge, then use an air hammer to tap the front face of the rotor adjacent to the wheel studs (the flat area of the rotor directly between the wheel studs). This will knock the rust loose and let the rotor slip off the studs. DO NOT use the air hammer on the braking [shiny] surface of the rotor!
No only should be done when your pads are changed.
If it's anything like my 01 montero 4x4, its not fun. you have to remove the wheel bearing, and repack it. takes time and patience. your better off taking it to a garage for this one.
make sure when you replace the pads, you repack the wheel bearings, replace the grease seals, set proper tension on the bearings, and resurface or replace the rotors
Good idea to do so
you have to take everything off...bearings, pins, bolts, EVERYTHING, starting from the center of it all. The last thing to take off is the rotor. Buy some bearing grease. You may as well repack your bearings. Also, check your cv boots. You may have to replace them too. If so, you may as well replace now while everything is off or your gonna have to do it all over again.
you have to pull the locking hubs off, lay a clean towel out and lay everything in the order you pull it out as there are several keepers and snap rings then you will have to use an axle nut socket and pull a big nut out, then the outer bearing. you will have to get new seals with your rotors and repack the bearings
remove wheel ,remove calipers, remove centre bearing nut then slide off disc. be carefull not to drop the bearing in dirt
If they are grinding, chances are the rotors are shot too. I just bought rotors and pads. $400.00 Canadian. Push out the retainers, top, bottom, pull off pads. Remover rotors. Your new rotors should come with bearing races already installed, there should be in front and one in behind. It would be advisable at this time to clean and repack your bearings, (with bearing grease!) install the new rotors and old bearings. If your not sure if your bearings are worn or not, you SHOULD at this time have someone look at them or just replace them. cause you have them out anyway AND it would suck to have to spend more money for new rotors if the bearings went. you will need a significant amount pressure to close the brake pistons enough to get your new pads back on the truck. once that is done. put the retainers back in and pump your brakes till you feel adequate pressure and pedal height. Then slowly go for a test drive to make sure they work.
how do you replace the front rotors on Toyota Land Cruiser
In some Honda's, you have to pull the axle shaft in. That may mean some disassmbly of the front end.
