How hard is it to replace the rear springs on a 2001 Mercury Sable if they are replaced with Quick Struts?

Using Quick-struts - the strut and coil spring already assembled - makes the job a whole lot easier! See "Related Questions" below for more

How do you replace the struts on a 2003 sable?

Begin by compressing the strut spring with a spring compressor. Be very careful as the strut spring will be under hundreds of pounds of pressure. Remove the strut retaining bolts. Reverse the process to install the new struts.

What special tools are needed to change struts on a 1996 Dodge Caravan?

The only, "special" tool required, is a spring compressor, for the suspension coil spring. Some parts stores rent/loan them out. If you are replacing the factory struts with,"quick struts" (preassembled springs, struts, and mounts) you won't need this tool. If not, using quick struts. You will need a spring compressor. You can take the whole strut assembly to a repair shop and they'll remove the spring for you. Don't attempt to remove the spring yourself (without a compressor), it is under a lot of pressure, even when removed from the vehicle, and you could be injured.

What specific struts should you buy to replace the front ones on 2002 Mazda Protege 5 I need to replace both front struts but want to ensure that I am buying the exact type required. Thanks?

if doing yourself just buy quick struts for the car if they make them for that model they cost more but they save a lot of time gas charged struts are junk

Are bad struts unsafe?

Yes. Bad struts effect the handling of a vehicle. In an emergency situation where you are required to make a quick maneuver, those bad struts can cause you to not be able to avoid an accident. They will also cause your tires to wear out prematurely.Yes. Bad struts effect the handling of a vehicle. How much should it cost to replace rear struts on a 1998 dodge neon?

You can purchase the quick struts for ~$200 online, a little more at a local place like advance auto. It is a matter of replacing just a handful of bolts for each strut and is an easy task. I would imagine if a garage did it, they might want $350 for the rear and $400 for the front. The front struts are a little more expensive.

How do you change front shocks on a Toyota 2001 echo?

well the front suspension assembly does not consist of shocks but struts. and is a easy to moderate job. must lift vehicle off the ground and support on jack stands. NEVER USE A HYDRAULIC JACK TO SUPPORT VEHICLE WEIGHT. pop the hood and lift it. remove wheels. disconnect brake line from brace on strut. remove two bolts from the strut and spindle. wiggle strut from spindle (may need pry bar to assist). remove three nuts from strut tower inside the engine bay (on the last nut , support the strut with one hand and remove the nut with the other, you may need help the strut is a little heavy. Now if you did not get what i call quick struts, which is the coil spring and strut together no need to remove coil spring. now if you did NOT get quick struts i recommend taking your struts to an auto service shop and have them put the coil springs on the new struts. you can do it yourself with coil spring compressors. but if not done correctly it can cause severe injury or death. coil springs have massive energy if they get released from the spring compressor. reverse steps for install. Enjoy I would always replace the springs at the same time. The job is not too bad, first time it could take 2 hours on each side but really should not take more than one hour. You can borrow a spring compressor for free from most auto parts stores (Advanced, Autozone, etc). Yes they can be dangerous, but if you use the proper tools there is little chance of an out of control spring. You may want to also replace the linkages at the same time as well since they are cheap and they are in the same general area (this is one of the main things state inspections fail cars for in my area after break pads, tire tread, and window wipers).

How do you check worn struts?

A fairly quick and fast way I check struts is I put all my weight down on the hood and give it a push, if your struts are good, it will not allow the car to bounce at all, it will basically absorb the shock and your struts are okay, otherwise your car will bounce excessively and its time to change out you struts. Same procedure for you rears, except they should be coil over shocks and less complex as most cars front suspensions.

How do you learn struts frame work?

To learn struts your self, you can get best documentation from Apache site URL: http:/struts.apache.org Struts 1 and Struts 2 are totally different API. Struts 1 is very famous. Right now lot of development community and teams are building applications using Struts 1.3. I feel it is better to learn Struts 1 in depth. and you can learn yourself struts 2 when it becomes popular. For live examples, practice and quick learning better to take classes. ---- I know that Strategic Agile Technologies provides on-line java training. The trainings are really good. To learn Struts in depth you can take on-line course from them. URL: http:/strategicagile.com/JavaTraining.aspx
