You want have to replace it unless it is defective. If you have the fluid and filter changed every 36,000 miles and never allow the transmission to overheat, it should last 150,000 miles. The cost to repair or replace will run from $1200 to $1800 depending on where you live and who does it. Stay away from any chain transmission shops. Dealer or a reputable independent are you best bets.
If you are purchasing a new 08 Caravan, the smaller engine will be better on gas mileage.

The new Sienna and the Caravan both have high gas mileage. The Town & Country is another great minivan, it is the vehicle I currently own and love.
The more mileage on a car the more wear and tear on the engine and transmission witch in turn can cause it to have problems.
No, it is possible to replace them in vehicle.
Not anymore often than any other vehicle.
Just out of curiousity, how is the transmission in this vehicle. Could the transmission be out of sync with the engine? This has happened to me when i had the transmission replaced in a dodge caravan, Good Luck
Left and right on the vehicle is determined while sitting behind the steering wheel. So the transmission is on the left side of the vehicle, hence no right trans mount.
A standard shift vehicle combined with good driving habits can get better fuel mileage than an automatic transmission vehicle.
I did mine, first time on this vehicle, in an hour .
In the past a manual transmission equipped vehicle would always get better fuel mileage. But on cars built in the last 5 years that is not always true. There are some vehicles where the A/T equipped vehicle gets as good or better fuel mileage than a manual. Especially cars equipped with a CVT automatic transmission.
