It is said that feeding them extra corn, oats and cayenne pepper will start them laying again.
Mixed with other scraps from the kitchen or moistened with water as a corn meal it will provide nutrition. Dry, it may be unrecognizable to the birds as food.
i am feeding my geese mixed corn at the moment but they still are not satisfied could you please tell me the best corn to feed them to fill there bellies. thankyou
Corn, or scratch grains. Do not feed this in access in the summer; feeding corn and scratch generates body heat which in turn can harm the chickens.
Chickens will eat about anything they can get their beaks on. Of course the husk would have to be bite size, but my chickens are used to spread horse manure around the farm. Believe me, chickens are not choosy. Of course as a complete diet, I would not suggest corn silk and husks, but as a tasty treat, why not!
Yes, grinding or breaking the whole corn is a good idea, especially for younger chickens.
Chickens eat grians, some wheats and corn.
Albert Carl Groschke has written: 'Relation of corn and tryptophane-low proteins to the dietary requirements for nicotinic acid in chickens' -- subject(s): Poultry, Nutrition, Nicotinic acid, Feeding and feeding stuffs
They can but it would be an unbalanced diet if grains other than corn were not added. Eventually the chickens would suffer from not getting the right vitamins and minerals. Try adding wheat, oats, barley and soy into the corn and you will get better egg production and meat yield.
corn fed chickens are those chickens who are fed with baby corns or corns to eat. corn fed chicken meat has a light yellow colour due to the corns they eat.
The yellow skin is from the feed given to the chicken prior to slaughter. Corn feed chicken is usually yellower than mixed grain fed chickens.
