hopefully not, im doing a clutch on a sharan now. Put the car on ramps. Ive removed the driveshaft by first loosening the hub nut and roadwheel (with the weight on the car). I then jacked up and supported the vehicle as necessary, removed roadwheel & hubnut. Then the abs wire and brake pipe from the strut. Next removed was the antil roll bar linkage to the strut (which required jacking up the opposite front side of vehicle off the ramp to even things out), then the bottom ball joint was removed with a suitable splitter. Then removed the bottom gearbox stabiliser mount. Drained the oil from gearbox then pulled the driveshaft clear of the hub then the gearbox. Supported the gearbox with a suitable jack and chocks of wood then undid X4 M17 bolts on the battery box. Carefully lowered the jack but i cant seem to get the gearbox low enough to remove it. need about another 2 inches to clear the wishbone!. More headgames tomorrow lol.
you don't need to raise the car off the engine cradle at all to change the clutch. i did the whole thing in my driveway
Well, I thought I'd have a go! Haynes recommend you take the engine out, but after seeing a post on LR4x4 I thought i'd follow it and move the gearbox back. I started the job a week ago, clutch is now in but I cannot get the gearbox back in place. So my answer is....... get someone else to do it! Yeah ive done 3 and always taken engine out from the point of view of lineing the engine/gearbox back up again. also when you change the clutch plates after removing engine make sure you renew the clutch fork. that is loacated in the gearbox housing, you will see it when you take the engine out.
To be honest it's a long process and most of the time requires you to take out the car engine. Not for amateurs!
Take the trans out, the clutch is inside the trans ^_^
Take out the transmission
Take it to a mechanic.
Unbolt the engine lift it up and turn it to the side where u see the tranny, unbolt the transmission, unbolt the pressure plate from the flywheel, take the clutch out, when u put a new one in make sure to use a clutch allingment tool
Why don't you take it to a mechanic before you ruin your truck by riding the clutch? The chattering could be engine knock because your engine is out of tune. When you ride the clutch, the clutch slips and puts less strain on your engine as you are burning out your clutch.
you take it to an experienced mechanic...
Take it to a repair shop.
take it to the clutch guys 713-783-0006
Take it to your mechanic. Pay $700-$1000. Drive away with new clutch.
