You can use a heating system or if you live in a tropical country that is aldready hot, you can keep them near an open window or then balcony. Don't place them too close, though because they tend to jump. A good way to keep them from jumping is to not fill the bowl/ aquarium up too much but to keep the water level a few inches below the top. If you close your windows and balcony at night to put on the A.C then you can keep them in the kithcen or in the bathroom at night to keep them warm. It's easier to keep 1 in a bowl but if you want to keep 2 or 3 its better to keep them in a big tank with lots of hiding places. Bettas are though fish if its a tiny bit cold they still will survive. However, winter in any country is a bad time to keep them out. If you don't have winter and it just becomes very cold it's still a bad idea.
If you live in a country that is quite cold or gets quite cold, I recommend it highly but, if you live in a tropical area you can leave the bowl in a warm area of the house, and if you switch on the air con. on at night place it in the hottest un-air conditioned part of the house such as the kitchen or the spare room on a sturdy table. They don't mind light but, darkness is better to ensure an un-disturbed sleep.
A Betta should not be in a bowl. It should be in at least three gallons of water with a heater set at around 78F, a permanently running filter and regular weekly water changes. The basic rules for keeping any fish including Bettas are :- 1 inch of fish needs a minimum of 1 gallon of water. :- Every tank needs a permanently running, cycled filter. :- Every tank needs to have at least 50% of its water changed every week. If you stick to those basics your fish and you will get along without too many problems. Fail to stick to one or all of them and I can guarantee you will have constant health problems with your fish..
You don't have to if your tank temperature is more than 75 degree.
well how else are you going to keep the water warm?
No they don't i had Betta fish for 2 years and never used a heater to breed them.
No, but when you change the water, you should bob him on top in a plastic cup filled with water and a lid, for 10 minutes, so he can adjust to the temperature
yes in fact if your home is at 76 to 84 degrees or a little bit lower betta fish can survive without a water heater.
No,the betts fish will DIE
If you are using tap water for the bowl without conditioner parts of the betta will start to "shed". If you aren't using conditioner then I recommend to go to a pet store and get "betta fish conditioner" that protects against tap water.
up to 4 months
Likely yes. Most sucker fish need a filter and heater though, and most betta's are housed without these things.
Very few species can, such as the Betta.
It is best that all fish have a filter besides Betta fish. Betta fish don't need filters cause the filter pushes them over with their big fins. Goldfish should have a filter on there tank because they are often overfed. If you have a filter you won't have to change the water as often. The only fish that shouldn't have a filer in captivity are Betta fish.
yes but replace half the water every 2 days
Betta fish was first found in the rivers of Thailand. They are basically river water fish.......
Well, if you love your Betta fish, then it should live by itself. But if you add another Betta to your current Betta fish's tank, then they will start a fight because Betta Fish are Siamese fighting fish and if one Betta is in contact of another Betta, the possible reason would be a fight between them two.
yes but it would need a heater as they are both tropical fish and you would need to change the water alot.
If your tank is too small for a heater it's too small for the Betta. The answer is simple. Get a bigger tank. A male Betta needs a heater, a filter, a light and living plants to be healthy. It grows to about 2 inches long so that means it needs at least 2 gallons of water ie a 3 gallon max capacity tank.
For the best health and lifespan of a betta, you should consider something that is at least 2.5 to 5 gallons and can have a small heater (bettas need a water temp of 78F to 80F), and a low flowing filter on it whether that be a small internal filter, or a small HOB (Hang On Back).
Yes they would be fine (if they are plants that are ment to live underwater) for the betta splenden aka Siamese fighter fish (assuming that is the betta you are refering to) as it is a tropical fish
