Try replacing the input and output speed sensors - they're reasonably inexpensive compared to replacing the transmission. You need to have the used transmission checked. Those trannies go into limp mode when there is a paroblem. Sometimes it's simple fix, sometimes not. Could be an electrical problem with one of the sensors in the front of the tranny. Have a good one.
