Try replacing the input and output speed sensors - they're reasonably inexpensive compared to replacing the transmission. See the attached link to the Autozone repair page explaining where they are etc.... Good luck! http://www.autozone.com/az/cds/en_us/0900823d/80/18/24/de/0900823d801824de/repairInfoPages.htm
check your shifter bushings, next would be inside the trans at the shift collar.
It does not have a speedometer gear. You need to have the used transmission checked. Those trannies go into limp mode when there is a paroblem. Sometimes it's simple fix, sometimes not. Could be an electrical problem with one of the sensors in the front of the tranny. Have a good one.
Is this a sudden occurance? Nuetral is a transmission issue. Do you need transmission fluid? Is your transmission going out? Is your car stuck in gear? See a mechanic before the problem gets worse. Believe me, a transmission can cost more than the car is worth.
It is being put in to limp in mode. The computer has detected a problem, get it checked out with a scanner
If it is standard (manual transmission) put it in the highest gear (4th-5th gear) and let out the clutch fast, it will stall. then procede to unhook your battery (so it doesn"t go dead) then you will be able to work on getting your key out of the ignition.
When the transmissions in these tractors get worn, they will jump out of gear. Usually first and third gear will do this first, and if the transmission gets really worn other gears may jump out.
You need to have the transmission computer checked for codes. It will default into second gear only when a malfunction is detected.
make sure you not in LOW Range 4-wheel drive That could do it! ALSO THERE IS A VACUUM LINE GOING TO TRANSMISSION THAT SOMETIMES GETS WORKED OFF. CHECK THERE AND THAT WILL PROBABLE BE THE PROBLEM
Wiggle the key as you turn the key while in the ignition switch. My 1994 gets stuck about once a month.
There's sludge or bits in the valve body.
You should not reach down and pull the accelerator with your hands. point blank switch to lower gear
