Answer

In a home, a smoke or fire alarm is not required, although it is highly recommendable to install a smoke alarm.

In a building for commercial use, a fire alarm is required by law and can be aided with smoke alarms. All fire alarms must be configured properly and drills must be carried out often, especially in schools and hotels.

Answer

In 2004 and 2005 in the United Kingdom, two new laws were passed:

  • Housing Act 2004
  • Regulatory Reform Order 2005

These laws make it illegal to not provide a smoke detector in new homes. From now on, every residential property in the UK built after 2004 must have smoke detectors installed by law.

The laws also make it illegal to not have a smoke detector in your home if you rent from a Landlord. It is the Landlord's responsibility to ensure his/her tenants safety, which includes installing fully working smoke detectors in the properties s/he rents out.

Other than that, you should always have a smoke/fire detector in your home for personal safety. If an accidental fire develops while you are asleep, for example, by the time the smoke wakes you up you may be engulfed by the fumes and poisoned by the carbon monoxide, preventing your escape.

Smoke detectors and fire alarms are life savers.

In the UK you can get a smoke detector installed for free. All you have to do is contact your local council or fire station and request a personal home visit by a fire officer.

How does a smoke alarm work?

press onThere are two kinds of smoke detectors. 1. When a fire burns, it releases smoke. The smoke detector senses the smoke. 2. A fire is very hot. The detector feels the heat. A smoke detector will then either set off an alarm, or it will turn on the sprinklers.

What is the fire detector?

Any device that detects smoke or heat and that sounds an alarm.

How Do smoke alarm Work?

There are 2 types of smoke detectors: ionization detectors and photoelectric detectors. Although they use different mechanisms both essential set off an alarm when smoke obscures the line of sight between 2 objects within the detector.

Are fire alarms and smoke detectors the same thing?

The terms can sometimes mean the same thing: a self-contained smoke detector with a built-in fire alarm. However, they are technically different and can be obtained in many types.A fire alarm SYSTEM can contain smoke detectors, heat detectors, manual pull stations and other sensors related to fire protection, including switches that say the fire sprinklers or the commercial kitchen fire extinguisher has activated. All of these sensors and switches are wired to a fire alarm control panel that monitors them constantly for electrical trouble or for alarm conditions, relaying the alarm message to bells, sirens, strobe lights and maybe even calling the fire department. Most people say "smoke detector" when they mean "self-contained smoke alarm". The smoke alarm does not usually connect to anything other than maybe another smoke alarm or two, so they all make noise when there is a fire, but someone still has to remember to call the fire department.

Don't Wait To Smell The Smoke: Install A Smoke Detector?

If you own, or even rent your home, you will want to invest in an Ademco smoke detector. Even if you think that nothing will happen to your house, it is better to be safe than to have everything taken away from you. The smoke detector can be placed all through the house so that every member will be able to hear the alarm if smoke is detected. A good smoke alarm could save the lives of your family if a fire were to occur.

How do you stop a fire alarm when it starts beeping and there is no smoke?

You can stop a smoke/fire alarm beeping by removing the battery. But, get another or fix the one you have and put it back quickly as it can save your life. If it's also a CO2 detector you will see no smoke and smell nothing but CO2 is lethal if you continue breathing it.

How smoke detector work in case of fire?

Smoke Detectors use things called LDR's or Light Dependent Resistors which lose resistance with an increase in natural light. So when there is a fire, smoke blocks out the natural light, alarming the smoke detector with an increase in resistance. Once the smoke is gone the resistance decreases and a current is allowed to flow to shut down the smoke detectors alarm. :)

Smoke detector for cigarettes?

What room is the fire alarm in your house?

This would normally be a smoke alarm/detector. At the basic lengths, you should have a heat detector in the kitchen, smoke alarm in the hallway of every floor. I.e. the entrance hallway on the ground floor and the landing on the first floor, second floor etc. If possible, also put one in the loft/atic and the basement (if you have one).

Can a smoke detector sound from heat only?

Then it wouldn't be a smoke detector, but there are fire alarms that are triggered by temperature.

Where and how is americium used in the home?

It's used in smoke detectors. It ionizes the air in the detector, and the electrons displaced by the ionization flow between two plates. Smoke disrupts this flow, the detector sees the change in current as proof of a fire and sounds the alarm.
