Don't use a cable modem for dial up. Use the modem in your computer or an external voice/fax modem for dial up. If you want to share the internet connection with other computers use Internet Connection Sharing (ICS) in Windows. Search windows in Information in Help and Support Center for the Internet Connection Sharing setup in Windows XP. To use ICS you will have to logically connect all of the devices into one network. Hopefully all of your computers will self assign an IP address that will let them talk to each other then all you need are network cables and a switch. You can also use the swith (LAN) portion of your cable modem as a router to assign IP addresses (DHCP) to the other computers to ensure the other computers are on the same network.

You are using broadband with adsl router connected to PC and phone line How do you use dial-up on the same PC with adsl router You cant dial the dial-up provider's number please provide clear guidance?

ial up independent of the broadband by installing a modem on the PC and connecting a phone line to it, but it wont share the connection. If you want to share dial up over your network with a dsl router, you need an external dial up modem and a second access point, like a non-broadband router, look here. http://www.ezlan.net/DialUp.HTML

What is the use of ADSL (direct) and wireless connection used to connect to the internet and supply an example?

ADSL is a method of multiplexing a broadband internet connection over an existing landline telephone wire that is still being used for voice band telephone.Wireless (usually Wi-Fi) is a method of connecting computers to a router via radio signals in the microwave band. It is usually used to support a Local Area Network (the range of the radio signal is limited) but the router may be connected to the internet via an ADSL modem, a SDSL modem, a cable modem, a satellite modem, etc. if desired.

Could you use 2 adsl modem to your home?

If you have two adsl lines then yes you can use two modems. Two modems on one line won't work. Just get a router to expand your network or up your broadband speed if available.

What do switches do in the home network?

You can use a switch to connect different pieces of equipment. For example, a standard ADSL router only has a port for a single Ethernet cable. If you want to connect 2 or more computers to the Internet, you can use a switch. In this case, the ADSL router and each computer connect to the switch, via a standard Ethernet cable. If you don't have an Internet connection, you can still set up a home network to share files, etc. To connect only 2 computers, you can connect them directly via a crossover cable. To connect more than 2 computers, better use a switch. You can use a switch to connect different pieces of equipment. For example, a standard ADSL router only has a port for a single Ethernet cable. If your router broadband line light is flashing amber does this mean the line is not yet ready for broadband?

You need to check what the 'broadband light' means. If it means synchronisation then it means that the ADSL (asuming its adsl) signal is not getting to the router. This could be that its not live yet, theres a problem with the line, theres a problem with the filter or wiring etc. If the 'broadband light' is the connection / ppp light then it could be that the username or password are incorrect. I would advise calling your ISP's tech support or having a look in the manual. I use www.odyssey-systems.co.uk for my ADSL and they sent one of their engineers out the same day.

Why you should use the router?

A router allows multiple devices to connect to a broadband internet connection
