It depends on the type of book, the nature of the reference, and more. If you're writing fiction and your character is reading comic books, that's fine. If you're writing non-fiction about comic books, that's fine. If you're writing a Batman and Robin story...not fine.
There is no "Robin Beyond" if that's what you're wondering. Tim Drake (the second Robin from Batman: The Animated Series) appears in Batman Beyond: Return of the Joker, but never in costume. Dick Grayson (the first Robin) never appears in the series, although he is mentioned a few times and does have a role in the comic book series.
