how to take off the clutch fan in 96 blazer,trying to change water pump?
fan clutch screws off water pump fan pump has left hand thread so to remove you need to turn clockwise
No You don't Need to change the water pump But you should change it and the thermostat if radiator was full of sludge. if not then no to both.

the water pump on the 4.3L vortec is easy. there are four bolt holding the water pump in place. these bolt hold your fan clutch also. the water pump and fan system.are built as one. remove these bolts and you are ready to change your water pump.
Get the correct water pump and clutch for your car. Loosen the alternator and remove the fan. Remove the bracelets, hoses and the retaining bolts. Remove the water pump and replace it with the new one.

In some Nissan Pickups of that year, the fan clutch is actually integrated with the water pump as an assembly. Therefore, the fan clutch cannot be separated from the water pump. There are six bolts holding the water pump to the engine block; remove those bolts and the water pump/fan clutch assembly should come out as a unit.
You need about a 30MM wrench, and a holder for the water pump pulley.
