The short answer is YES!
Due to the various electronic components which carry both low signal voltages as well as high power voltages which are inherent in the cabinet or "body" of the unit, introducing any form of moisture such as steam or water-vapor would allow an electrical "bridge" to be formed. These can cause major surges and literally blow up your TV.
A solution is to try separate the TV from your bathroom atmosphere by placing it in an airtight box (such as perspex or plexiglass) - however, you still need an OUTSIDE source of fresh, dry air for the cooling of the TV. Here we suggest a computer fan drawing air through a fine filter into a pipe leading to the box, and ANOTHER exit pipe venting to outside of the bathroom - this is so when the unit is not running, no moist air can enter the box via any vent slots in the box.
Obviously the smaller the TV, the easier it is to make the box, and as a rule of thumb, in order of TVs generating the most heat to the least: Cathode Ray Tube, Plasma, LCD then LED.
