if it is the 32 valve northstar V8, yes, the service manual states you need to pull the engine to change the oil pan and/or gasket. if you have access to a rack or a lift though, the easier thing to do is to use a brace to support the engine, and lower the subframe under the car a few inches(or, totally disconnect the subframe and let it all sit on the floor. this will give you enough clearance to replace the oil pan. it'll be a tight fit, but it will be MUCH easier than removing the whole engine assembly

no does it have a drace under the engine? if it does that's all you need to take of or what you can do is take of the bolts from the motor mounts and just lift up the engine
