K.; Swarup, D.; Patra, R. C. Evaluation of ascorbic acid treatment in clinical and subclinical mastitis of Indian dairy cows. Asian-Australasian Journal of Animal Sciences, 2002. 15(6), 905-911) showed that vitamin C (equivalent to 10 grams/diem for humans) together with antibiotics healed infected cow udders in half the time as antibiotics alone.

∙ 10y agoCheck with a doctor before mixing vitamins with antibiotics, as different combinations could have different effects. Taking vitamin C with antibiotics can increase the medication's effectiveness. Vitamin B12, on the other hand, could react negatively with antibiotics and prevent the medicine from killing the source of an infection. Not all antibiotics are the same, however, so depending on which one you are prescribed, vitamins could interact differently.

∙ 12y agoYou should wait at least two hours between taking the antibiotic and taking the vitamin, because some vitamins decrease your body's absorption of the antibiotic medication. If this happens, and the bacteria are not killed, then antibiotic-resistant bacteria start to form, making it harder to kill them off.
