if you press down shift on your keyboard and at the same time press down the question mark key this should work !!OR You can just press the question mark then there will be a big question mark

Yes this is acceptable providing you finished with a question.
I use my left pinky to press and hold "Shift" and press the question mark key with my right pinky.
Hold down CTRL + SHIFT & press "8" (or click the Pilcrow mark in the toolbar). When you see these marks, you are seeing spaces as middle dots and paragraph marks as pilcrows. They will not print; they are there simply to show you where you are entering the non-printing characters. If you hold SHIFT and press ENTER, for example, you put in a line feed instead of a paragraph mark, and it looks like a little down-left arrow.
