it is under the engine top plastic housing. when you face the engine compartment it is under the housing on the right side
a 2007 altima does not have rear struts. it has shocks and coil springs. if the rear shocks are bad and the car is bouncing up and down several times when you hit dips in the road or after you come to a stop your shocks could be bad and then yes it could cause you to wreck in certain situations. to test your shocks bounce the rear by pushing up and down several times real hard on each corner. after releasing the car it should only bounce 1 1/2 to 2 times before stopping. any more than this and the shocks may be bad.
Struts run about $75 each at retail. Shops generally charge between $50-75 each for labor. Plus, you should have the van aligned after. I just got off the phone with Cherokee Hyundai Service asking this question of a 2007 model. I was told that it DOES have a chain. Hope this helps. I'd encourage you to call the dealer for questions like this. They are usually helpful.

I replaced mine at 135,000 on my 1999 Grand Prix. It started bouncing too much on the bumps and making a creaking noise on bumps.
