Myneurologist put me on Cymbalta after my Pamelor seemed to be strong enough.
When she put me on Cymbalta I was so HAPPY. The pain in my legs was feeling better. I still and on Cymbalta, the pain is not gone, but it is the most relieved I was given.
I suggest all people who suffer from neuropathy should talk to their doctors about it.
It make a big difference for me and I love !<3! my Cymbalta!!
But everyone reacts different on drugs than others.
Best of luck!!!

Nerve Pain Overview?

Nerve pain, technically known as neuralgia, is an intense, ongoing pain that seems to follow nerves through the body. It is caused by damage to the nerve or inflammation due to irritation. While not fatal, nerve pain can be severe and affect quality of life.Causes of Nerve PainThere are many causes for nerve pain, including accidents and illnesses. Nerve pain can be caused by chemical irritation and reactions to toxins or allergens. It is also a symptom of illnesses such as chronic renal insufficiency and diabetes. Nerve pain can also be brought on by viral infections such as herpes or HIV. Some genetic conditions can cause nerve pain, as can certain medications. Neuralgia is also brought on by pressure from other body parts pushing on nerves, and it can be the result of trauma.Symptoms of Nerve PainAcute nerve pain causes even the slightest touch to be registered as pain in the area near the affected nerve. It can also manifest as a numbness along the nerve pathway. The symptoms will always recur in the same area with sharp, stabbing pain. The pain may be either constant or it may be intermittent and can worsen when the affected area is moved. Muscles controlled by the nerve my become paralyzed or weak.Treatment of Nerve PainDoctors will first compile a history of the pain, when it began, what related health problems the patient may have and any recent changes in health or recent injuries that may have contributed to the symptoms. They will also perform tests checking for unusual sensations in the affected area, loss of reflexes, reduced muscle mass, nerve damage resulting in lack of perspiration, soreness in the area affected, as well as trigger points that cause severe pain.Treatment of nerve pain will depend on the cause, and may include surgery to reduce pressure on nerves, the use of diet and medication to control blood sugar, a wide range of medications to control pain, physical therapy or other appropriate therapy regimens.Prognosis for Nerve PainMost neuralgia will respond to treatment, and the condition is not life threatening, though it can be highly painful. The pain will generally come and go, and may worsen as the patient ages, depending on the cause.

Nerve Pain Caused by Sciatica?

The sensory nerves are those that send signals from both the muscles and the skin to the brain and spinal cord where it is processed, causing you to experience many sensations, including pain. There are many things that can cause nerve pain. Nerve pain and damage may often be mild, but even then it can still affect your life. One particular type of nerve pain that millions of people experience is sciatica. Sciatica refers to a condition where the sciatic nerve, which starts in the lower back and travels through the buttocks into the leg, is pinched. The sciatic nerve is made up of multiple spinal nerves so that when it is pinched it can cause pain that extends from the buttocks all the way down the back of the leg. This type of nerve pain is usually caused by a herniated disc or a bone sput that presses on one of the roots of the sciatic nerve. Symptoms of nerve pain caused by sciatica are: •Lower back pain •Pain in the back of the thigh, lower leg or foot. This pain may often be worse than the back pain itself. The pain can range from moderate to severe and will usually start in the buttocks. If the pain does not extend beyond the knee, the problem may not be true sciatica. For people who have sciatica for a long time, the pain eventually centers in the buttocks and the back of the leg and the actual back pain may diminish. Treatment for the nerve pain caused by sciatica varies depending on the severity of the case. Many cases of sciatic nerve pain go away on their own over time. Fairly conservative treatments like rest and limiting activities that may aggravate the condition, combined with anti-inflammatory medication are usually the first treatment alternative. Strengthening and stretching exercises as well as supervised physical therapy work well to help sufferers return to their regular activities. Surgery is usually the last option when all other more traditional treatments have failed. But there are now endoscopic surgical procedures that can repair a herniated disc and relieve the nerve pain. These replace the much more invasive open back surgeries and pain and discomfort are greately reduced along with recovery time.
