With his love dead, Izcozauhqui carried her to the highest point in the land, and stood beside her until he died, as a last act of defiance against his father wishes. Then, she became the "sleeping woman" (Iztacchihuatl) and he became the "smoking hill" (Popocatepetl), two of the biggest mountains in Mexico that symbolize the eternal love that defied even the gods.
