Yes, it is the source of corn whiskey. Ethanol can be made from any sugar or starch.Corn doesn't make ethanol. The yeast that consumes the corn produces ethanol as a waste product.

Does Texaco have ethanol?

CITGO gasoline may contain ethanol, but primarily only in select areas where it's the oxygenate of choice to meet federal regulations for reformulated gasoline. Regulations require that if a gasoline contains ethanol, that fact must be posted clearly on the retail dispenser. If you don't see this or a similar posting, the gasoline shouldn't contain ethanol.

What are the concerns of using ethanol as a fuel?

Ethanol has many considerations as far as its use as an automotive fuel.\: # On the plus side it is a liquid and easily handled in the present transportation and delivery systems. # On the negative side: * Ethanol from food crops removes food from the system * It requires more energy to produce ethanol than the automobile gets out of the ethanol (Crops require fertilization and fertilizers are made using hydrocarbons, ethanol is made by fermaentation, the fermentation products require distillation, the ethanol is a less efficient fuel than gasoline) * Ethanol combustion creates tail pipe emissions of aldehydes and ketones at levels not present in hydrocarbon fuelled autos * There is not enough land to produce enough ethanol fuel while maintaining food production * Ethanol from waste cellulose is not being pursued asa production route

How is biomass converted into ethinol?

Ethanol (ethyl alcohol), also known as grain alcohol, is the same 'alcohol' found in all alcoholic drinks. Bioethanol is simply ethanol that has been produced using biological materials (biomass) for feedstocks. Since it relies on sunlight and photosynthesis to contribute to the growth of that biomass (plants, grasses, corn, wheat, etc), bioethanol is a renewable fuel. Bioethanol is made when biomass is converted to sugars, which are then fermented into ethanol. The process of hydrolysis seperates most of the water from ethanol, leaving an end product that is generally about 95% ethanol and 5% water. Bioethanol can be blended with conventional gasoline at any ratio, but the most common blend is E10 (10% ethanol, 90% gasoline, sometimes called Gasohol), which can be used in existing gasoline engines without modifications and without affecting vehicle warranty. Higher blends, such as E85, require a Flexible fuel vehicle (FFV).source: http://www.futurecars.com/futurefuels/bioethanol.html

What gas stations in Brevard County Florida sell ethanol free gas?

Last spring most gas stations in Brevard CTY rapidly switched over from non-alcohol to ethanol blends (E10). I lived in Viera/Melbourne at that time - Ethanol is blended in by local distributor (not at the refinery) and % will change with each delivery. You may be lucky enough to find station that has not yet switched over. (They must first properly prepare tanks, clean and dry before switching). Laws in FL 3/2008 require 100% blending by 12/31/2010 -up to legal max of 10% ethanol for e10 blend - View article copy on our site, from DOACS Press release titled: "Bronson Unveils New Fuel Quality Standards for Ethanol". BUT THERE ARE E10 EXEMPTIONS - Including private marine stations, aircraft...See FL House Bill 7135, section 103 of the Florida Statutes. We just started a board where consumers in U.S. can post names/locations of stations that are ethanol-free.FL specific laws details can also be found at Fuel-testers state-by-state ethanol laws/guidelines page. see fueltestkit.com or fuel-testers.com

What kind of gasoline for Nissan Xterra?

All 3.3 supercharged FI MFI Xterra's require premium gasoline. --- running on regular or ethanol will probably trigger the Xterra's knock sensor in this engine. Since replacing the knock sensor (code 324 or related) in the Xterra supercharged engine is extremely expensive (figure $650-$750) depending on year and location... --- use premium. The "non aspirated" 3.3 cylinder Xterra can use regular gasoline IMO.... --- personally, I would try to avoid ethanol blends (10%) since the Xterra engines are somewhat sensitive to lower grade fuels.
