This depends very much on the department. As a general rule, AP scores of 4 or 5 can be used to skip introductory-level courses.

I believe what is said above is true, but it should be noted that Princeton does not award "credit" for AP exams, ie credit towards distributional requirements or your major, unless you qualify for advanced standing and wish to graduate early.
