How does the depo shot work?

depo is injected into the muscle, it tricks the body into thinking you are pregnant this is why your period is stopped. you do not ovulate at all.

Should you be having dark discharge and some bleeding on Depo?

I have had regular periods since I started depo in Oct 09.... I am due for my 4th shot in July and have been bleeding now for over a month.. I am very aniemic so am choosing to discontinue the shot. I started it to help with fibroids and cysts and extreme pain, it work until recently the pain returned, the clots returned and so did the heavy flow.

Do you suppose to have periods while on depo shot?

All women's side effects vary after receiving the Depo Provera shot. It is normal to have disruptions in your normal cycle immediately after receiving it, and for some reason, throughout the entire duration of the shot. It is completely normal to have spotting, no period, a change in the flow of your period, etc after getting the shot. Ask your doctor or gynecologist if you are unsure about any side effects of Depo Provera.

Can you get your Depo Provera shot while on your period?

You are supposed to get the shot when you are on your period to make sure you aren't pregnant, but you still need your yearly exam and the doctors dont want you on your period for that.

When do periods restart after finishing Depo Provera?

I only had one Depo shot. I was due for another in early December 07 but decided not to get the shot when it was due after bleeding for four weeks in November on the shot. It is now March 08 and I am still waiting for my period to arrive. I called my doctor and he said that it can take several months to get your period again even after one shot. Everyone is different but I did not expect for it to take so long to start my period again after just one shot - but that's not a bad thing - the whole reason I tried Depo was to try to stop my period - which didn't work out well at first given I had a pretty regular four week period in the middle of the shot. This isn't really an answers to your question but just another case of no periods after depo provera. My last shot was Feburary 2008, it should have worn off may 08... Its not Septermber 09... that's 16 months and I still have not seen my period... I had the shot 3 times.. Bad choice :S I don't want babies now, but maybe in my later years, I want my periods back :(

How often do you get depo provera shots?

I have the Depo shot you only get the shot every three months. As of how much it costs it would range about the same as three months cycle of birth control pills To get all the information you need regarding the depo shot, click on the website below. What will my doctor put me on instead of the depo injection?

It is up to you and your doctor together to determine what method might work for you. If you can't take combined hormonal contraception, your options are Depo Provera, Nexplanon, Mirena, Paragard, and the progestin-only pill.

If you do not take Depo-Provera at the correct time will it still work towards preventing pregnancy?

There's a range of time to get your next injection in order to have continuous protection from depo provera . If you get the next injection later than this range, you could get pregnant.

Does Depo-Provera work less the longer you are on it?

No, Depo-Provera doesn't becomes less effective if you're on it longer. Each injection is equally effective.
