The Eisenhower interstate system does require that one mile in every five miles must be straight. The straight sections are usable as airstrips in times of war or other emergencies.

Type your answer here... Please double check me on this, but I believe Eisenhower developed the Interstate road system. I also believe he required that all interstate roads have several straight sections in the event a disabled aircraft had to force land on the Interstate roardway.
