You left some wires unplugged.
A 1989 Chevy Cavalier will not stay running after it has started if the spark plugs are fouled, the fuel filter is dirty, or it has a vacuum leak. Taking the vehicle to a local mechanic or dealership can pinpoint the problem.
About the only thing they have in common is the headlight switch. Have it checked out.
It is usually wired in with the radio or the courtesy/dome lights.
Try a new starter or ignition.

Probably because the circuit board for the bulbs is rusted out at the bottom
With the engine running and all lights and acces off approx 14 volts should be put out
