not necessarily. Easiest way to check is to jack up the rear of the car to get both wheels off the ground. Don't forget to chock the front wheels. Put the car in neutral and spin one wheel forward by hand. If the other wheel spins forward, you have posi. If it spins the opposite direction, you have an open end rear.
Also, on posi rears, GM usually put a small aluminum tag on one of the inspection plate bolts specifying what type of fluid to use. This is not a sure fire way to tell, though because it may have disappeared years ago.
NO

The 3.73 rear end in a 1998 Chevy Silverado 1500 does not automatically mean it is a posi-traction (posi) differential. Posi-traction refers to a limited-slip differential that allows both rear wheels to spin together for improved traction. You would need to confirm with the specific vehicle's build options or VIN to determine if it has a posi rear end.
No , a 1986 Chevy Caprice is REAR wheel drive
Yes it does. It's called a limited slip differential. Posi would refer to the Chevy brand rear end. No you don't have posi. Yes you have a LSD.
