The Ford puma thermostat housing is on the side of the engine, with two hoses connected to it. Be sure to replace the gasket when installing the housing.
Replacing the thermostat in a 2000 Ford Focus SE wagon is very easy to do. First the radiator hose will need to be disconnected from the thermostat. After the hose is drained and disconnected, the thermostat can be removed by taking the two bolts off.
At the end of the top radiator hose after you take two bolts off of the housing that covers the thermostat.
If you follow the top radiator hose torwards the motor,it will be hooked to the thermostat houseing.Remove the two bolts and the houseing and there it is.

I'm not a mechanic / technician but I was looking at one of the Ford websites and it shows ( for the 4.0 liter SOHC , V6 engine ) the engine cooling thermostat has DIFFERENT part numbers ( so , I would say the answer is NO ) * for the 2000 Explorer , Ford lists one part number for the 4.0 liter SOHC , V6engine cooling thermostat and for the 2002 , Ford lists two part numbers depending on the build date

It is located where the bottom hose of the radiator connects to the engine. There are two bolts that hold it in place the thermostat is right inside that housing.
My 97 4.0 Ranger's thermostat is in the front of the engine. I has two bolts you have to take off. I had to replace the gasket. Leaked when I got on it hard. It's called the "thermostat housing. Thermostat is easy to replace. Great engine.

In a 2.3L engine, remove the rad hoses from the thermostat housing, two in total, undo the two bolts, and pull the housing off. The thermostat is inside. The housing is on the left side of the engine.
