Venus Flytraps mainly need very bright light. The soil they are planted in should be moist. They can survive without insects though. If you want to feed a flytrap, 2-3 insects per month should be enough. However, looking after a Venus Flytrap is very tricky. All carnivorous plants are rather hard to care for. Don't be surprised if your first one dies and you don't know why.

Flytraps need water (not tap-water), nutrition from the earth, and bugs to 'eat'.

Every time one of it's traps opens you should eather feed it or let it get its own food. Let it hiburnat three months of the year or more you don't have to but it will only last about two maybe three years. to hibunat it you should take the plant and it's pot and take a bag a ruber band. 1 put bag over plant. 2 take band and put it over pot. 3 put in freg. chic on it often so not mold can come up. It will like like it is died but it should come back to life in shummer:). When you see a stalk coming up you should cut it as far down as you can only if you want seeds but do not do it to often. Sorry about my spilling :)

Well they need them to reproduce. Also, they need them to access nutrients that the soil is lacking in, so if the soil is ideal, then they could survive without them.

I had one once then it died because i couldn't catch any flies.
