Hinged knee brace?
A hinged knee brace is a knee brace with padded metal hinges on either side. They are very helpful, because when your knee collapses or cannot support weight, the hinges hold your knee in place and up. I have the KNAPP Hinged Knee Orthosis Brace which I strongly recommend if you are looking into knee braces.

Why Use A Knee Brace?
Knee braces come in handy in many situations. You can use them when you are playing sports, and you can wear a knee brace if you are injured. You can purchase knee braces at almost any retail store. If you play sports, then it is a good idea to wear a knee brace. The brace will protect your knee from being injured if you twist it or if you fall on the knee. You might have to wear a brace on both knees if you play a sport that has a lot of physical contact. Basketball players can wear knee pads to protect their knees if they fall on the court. If you play basketball, you could injure your knee by tripping over someone or by turning too fast while you are running or trying to shoot the ball. Soccer players also wear knee braces. They risk injuring their knees if the ball comes close to them. They could also get kicked in the knee by another player. If you have been injured while playing a sport, or if you have damaged your knee in another way, a knee brace can help to keep the knee stable until you can go to the doctor. A knee brace might be the only thing that you need if you have only sprained the knee or pulled any ligaments. You should keep the knee propped on something, and you should stay off of it as much as possible. A muscle rub can be applied to the knee before you put the knee brace on. The rub will soothe the knee while the brace is on it. When you need a knee brace, you can usually find one by going to your local grocery store or pharmacy. Most stores have some type of knee brace in their first aid department. If you need something more stable, then you can visit an urgent care facility.

Knee braces - unloading?
Alternate Names Unloading brace Osteoarthritis of the Knee When most people talk about the arthritis in their knees, they are referring to a type of arthritis called osteoarthritis. Osteoarthritis is caused by wear and tear inside your knee joints. Cartilage, the firm, rubbery tissue that cushions all of your bones and joints, normally allows bones to glide over one another. If the cartilage breaks down and wears away, the bones rub together, causing pain, swelling, and stiffness. Bony spurs or growths form, the ligaments and muscles around the knee become weaker, and your whole knee become stiffer and stiffer. Unloading Braces for Knee Arthritis In some people, arthritis may affect mostly the inside of the knee. This may be because the inside of the knee often bears more of a person's weight than the outside of the knee. A special brace called an "unloading brace" may help take some of the pressure off the inside of your knee when you are standing. An unloading brace does not treat your arthritis, but it may help relieve symptoms such as knee pain or buckling when you are moving around. People who wish to delay having knee-replacement surgery may want to try an unloading brace. There are 2 types of unloading braces: An orthotist can make a custom-fitted unloading brace. You would need a prescription from your doctor. These braces often cost over $1,000, and insurance may not pay for them. Unloading braces may be bought "off the shelf" in different sizes. You do not need a prescription for them. They cost a few hundred dollars. It is not known for sure how well unloading braces work. Some people say they have fewer symptoms when they use them. But medical studies who have tested these braces have not proved whether they do or do not help people with knee arthritis. References Paluska SA. Knee braces. In: Pfenninger JL, Fowler GC, eds. Can a knee strap or knee brace fix crooked knees?
I'm a teen and I've dislocated my knee twice. Usually, when your knee is crooked it's just where your patella sits. People with bad knees, their knees sit lower on the bone than normal. It's not actually 'fixable' unless it's swelling or broken. A knee strap and brace will help with support but not the actual physical look.
