When a timing belt breaks, the timing of the valves' movement is no longer synchronized with the crankshaft (and the movement of the pistons).
On most engines, if the valves open when the piston moves upward, the valve and piston hit each other, which can break off the valve, allowing it to cause more damage to the engine. These types of engines are called 'interface' types.
However, on some engines, the valves don't open far enough, and the pistons don't come up high enough for the two to come into contact. So when a timing belt breaks on these engines, the engine stops running, but no internal damage is done. These are called 'non-interface' engines.
Don't feel safe giving you credit card number
Yes.
If the belt breaks you will have serious internal engine damage but the engine will not be ruined. It can be repaired.
A broken timing belt will make a mishap out of the engine. The Piston will kiss the valves and ruin the head a possibly the piston that it comes it tact with. Hope this helps.
Changing the timing belt will cost approximately $600. A broken timing belt can ruin your entire engine, of which will cost many times more than the $600.
If the timing belt breaks on any engine the damage to the engine is usually very bad.
NO the rodeo does not have an interference engine. You can break the timing belt and not ruin the engine.......... THIS IS AN INTERFERENCE ENGINE. IF THE CRANKSHAFT MOVES WHILE THE TIMING BELT IS OFF OR BREAKS, THE VALVES WILL COME INTO CONTACT WITH THE PISTONS.
If you think it is going bad STOP DRIVING and get it changed immediately. If the timing belt/chain goes while you are motoring it will ruin the engine.
How can you tell it's an interference engine or If it's a non-interference engine, or if your valves are in the right place when the belt snaps? Also how can I remove the crank shaft pully?
YES, the Honda engine is considered an interference engine, which means that the valves will come in contact with the piston if the belt breaks. under rare circumstances if the car is idiling i have seen the belt break and not hurt the valves. hope this helps It is very likely, if you have broken your timing belt. IF you notice it right away and bring the car to a complete stop immediately-- include turning off the engine--you may escape engine damage. This is not a guarantee though.
The failure of the 2004 Kia 2.4 liter timing belt can cause severe damage to the piston heads and the valves. The timing belt failure can ruin the engine.
Not keeping oil in it, not changing the oil and filter, not servicing the timing belt when it needs it, running it without coolant.
If the belt broke then you more than likely have internal engine damage as this is an interference engine. You will know when you open it up. That does not mean the engine is ruined, as it can be repaired quite easily. It will just cost you for neglecting the belt.
