In a way. When the engine is running the alternator supplies DC current to all electrical devices in the vehicle. When the key is in the "ACC" position, then the battery is powering the sound system. The radios don't take up much juice by CD or tape players will run the battery down to the point there's not enough power to turn over the starter.

The battery provides power to all electrical systems fitted to the car, such as the starter motor, lights, indicators, windscreen wipers, fuel pump, radio etc.

Will the car radio drain a battery?

Yes the car radio will drain the life out of a battery. The way it works is the battery acts like a plug-in that is in your house, and everything is hooked to it so after a while of using it all the power is draned from the batery and it is dead.

How do you disconnect the battery on your Chevy S10 without locking up my radio to where it wont work?

Why Stock cdplayer in 94 accord will not work but radio will after battery went dead I put code in just the radio came on though how can I fix this?

Sometimes, a factory radio will work and not the CD player because the CD player is broken. Also, some makes of car radios only turn the CD portion of the sound system on when a CD Rom is physically pushed gently into the sleeve. Doing this causes the CD player portion of the sound system to activate it's power-on. Also, if you can use your radio when the car battery is nearly dead, just remember this: a car radio takes very, very low amounts of 12 volt battery power to operate. Imagine it's just a bit more than say...a 9 volt battery. Your battery may not have enough power/juice left in it to start your car with cold cranking amps/power but it does have enough left deep inside to operate your battery. Starting a car takes more power from the battery, a lot more. Starting a tiny radio takes very little.

When i changed the battery on Mitsubishi galant the why does radio asks for a pass-code?

It is part of the security on the car, if someone pulled the radio they could never get it to work. When the car loses power, it resets. The code is in your owner's manual for your car.

What will drain a car battery?

What does your car battery power?

Headlights, radio, ignition, and other elec accessories. Also turns starter to start vehicle but they replenish battery when running via alternator

Changed battery interior light stays on radio not working?

By changing the battery, you erased your car's computer presets. Your car probably has an anti-theft radio, that locks when power is lost to it, and requires a factory security code to unlock it. The code might be in a section of the owner's manual, but if you cannot find it, you have to go to a new car dealership and have them reset the radio.
