He's still on the rebound from his relationship with her. He's projecting his feelings towards his ex onto you---along with that, he'll eventually project the issues he had with his ex onto you as well. He's hasn't moved on to where he can have a successful relationship, because anyone else he currently dates will be basically a surrogate for the ex that he really wants.
Proceed with caution if you do decide to keep dating him.
