If you want to be able to connect to the internet with it, then yes, it will need some sort of internet connection. Dialup, DSL and cable are all viable options, or you could also opt for an "air card" which connects via the cellular network, but that's a bit more spendy.
Conversely, you could just look around for some free internet via wifi. Many restaurants and most hotels have free internet access via wifi.
All Internet vendors claim to have high speed broadband. It is definitely faster than dialup or the old DSL bur not as fast as local LAN speeds.
DSL is broadband

DSL is faster
One can obtain broadband DSL by contacting a company that specializes in broadband services. These companies include AT&T Internet and Broadband National.
if its cable or DSL, just plug your laptop into the modem and surf if its dialup you need her IPS's connection software on your computer and her username and password Thank You Kris - http://cssraven.com
DSL is always the less expensive and usually more reliable than satellite broadband. The only reason to choose satellite broadband is if DSL and cable are not available in your area. There is no wiring necessary for satellite broadband internet and it is available with a permanent connectivity with constant bandwidth. You do not need a phone line and it may be available in rural areas where DSL is not available. Given a choice, I beleive most would choose DSL over satellite broadband. DSL will provide you with a faster and more stable connection when compared to satellite broadband.
Dialup, DSL, Cable.
It works with a broadband connection. dsl=broadband, therefore should work (unless you have a slow dsl connection.
You only need one ethernet connection on the laptop for DSL. If you need to connect to other computers on an ethernet network then you can buy a 4 or 8 port Wireless/Lan router. Plug the Broadband box into the router, laptop into the router. And if you need more connections then you can buy a 4, 8 or 16 port ethernet switch and plug the router into that and then plug the other computers into the switch and there you go.
If you're talking about mobile broadband for your phone, it's neither DSL nor T1: it's 3G.
Cable broadband does not necessarily cost more money than DSL broadband. The cost will depend on the company providing the service.
