A pressure switch reads pressure not level.
monitor and read oil pressure. sending that info to the gage cluster.
There are several pressure switches in a vehicle. The engine has an oil pressure switch that sends a signal to the oil pressure gauge oil or light for you to monitor. Some oil pressure switches can shut down the fuel pump if no oil pressure is detected. The AC system has both a low pressure and a high pressure switch to protect the AC system from self destruction.
High oil pressure is good....
Oil pressure lights indicate improper oil pressure. A pressure sensor is mounted on the engine to monitor the pressure. When the engine oil pressure drops to a level below the perameters required for proper engine operation as determined by the manufacturer, the sensor acts as a switch to complete an electrical current, illuminating the light. Low oil pressure can be caused by, among other things, insufficient oil level, or internal engine component wear, including a worn oil pump.
Make sure you are looking for the THE OIL LEVEL SENSOR and not the oil pressure switch. Oil level sensor should still be located on the oil Pan.
Low oil pressure or failed oil pressure switch.Low oil pressure or failed oil pressure switch.
The oil pressure switch is located on the oil filter adapter. Find the oil filter and you should see the oil pressure switch.
where is the oil pressure switch on my 96 Yukon
oil pressure switch sends message to oil pressure gauge in dashboard, telling what the oil pressure in engine is
Switch is located in the side of the sump, oil pressure switch located at base of oil filter assembly. 2 in total.
For me I think it was my oil pressure switch. I had the light popping up on occassion and then one day I had a low oil level light on. I wiggled the wire around the oil pressure switch and now both lights are gone. My oil was just changed so I know my oil was not low. Check your connection on the oil pressure switch I was going to throw a new switch in because they are cheap but instead just wiggled the wire it looked hard to get out.
In a 1991 3.3l the oil pressure switch is located beside the oil filter
