Depends. Do you need a converter box to hook up the TV to the antenna? No. You just connect the antenna to the TV's antenna input. Do you need the converter box to see "X" channel? Maybe. If "X" isn't broadcasting "over the air" in your location, then you will need a) cable or satellite service and b) the converter box.

You don't need a new TV or antenna. You need a Digital Converter Box. Go to a Radio Shack, Circuit City or Best Buy. Connect your old antenna to the converter box, connect the converter box to your old TV...all will be well.

If the DVR has a tuner, you might have to switch it to antenna from cable. If it has no tuner you might need a converter box.

To receive Broadcast Television Signals of NTSC Analog or ATSC Digital a television antenna is needed. If the TV has ATSC built in , then a converter box will not be needed.

In the US the answer is probably not. Digital and analog TV broadcasts use the same frequencies and antennas. Digital TV is more fussy about signal quality than the older analog signals. So if you get marginal analog reception, figure on getting a new antenna for digital. The idea that there are special HDTV antennas is just marketing hype. Any antenna that gives you better digtial reception will also give you better digital reception.
