No. Spotting does not prevent implantation. It is often a symptom of implantation. An egg is viable (for fusion with a spermatoza) when the egg "drops" right up to, and including, when the period starts. So, if you had unprotected sex during your ovulation window and you have spotting, then I suggest getting a pregnancy test ... unless you had your period after the spotting events. The sequence of events that you describe tells me that you could have experienced implantation bleeding ... however, if you have not been sexually active, then this is not the case. Either way, if the spotting /bleeding changes in intensity /duration, have your Gyno check it out for you.

No, I'm afraid not. If your period has started, that means that the endometrium has started to degrade and pass out of the body via the vagina. The endometrium is where the fertilised egg would implant, without it implantation cannot occur.

Hi, This could be implantation bleeding. If it is IB you can perform a pregnancy test in 2 weeks or alternatively see your doctor for a quantitative beta hcg pregnancy blood test now. It all depends on where in your cycle you were when you had sex and started bleeding. The bleeding could just be from the sex itself, you may have gotten a scratch or tear inside that is bleeding, you could be starting your period early or you could be experiencing implantation bleeding. If it is implantation bleeding it may be bright pink or dark brown and only enough to be considered 'spotting' and not a period. If it is heavy bleeding it is not implantation bleeding.
