Why might the cigarette lighter cell phone charger socket remains on in a 1999 Pontiac Grand Am even after the car is turned off?

The cigarette lighter / pwer socket is a constant hot socket. In most cars you can use this power socket at all times. It is best to remove anything(except the cigarette lighter) from this socket when the car is off.

Why does your fuse for the lighter keep blowing on Pontiac grand am?

Depending on the location, foreign objects can fall down inside the socket. If the object is metalic (foil wrapper, hair pin, etc.) it will short out hte socket. Also, spilled beverages can corrode the socket and cause a short.

Why does the cigarette lighter fuse keep blowing on your 2001 Pontiac grandam gt?

I have the same problem with my 2004 Grand Am. Tried replacing the cigarette socket, but that didn't work. I can't find any shorts. Possibly the alternator or wiring to the fuse box. If I figure it out, I will post the resolution.

How do you fix the cigarette lighter in a 2002 dodge stratus not work?

If it's the lighter itself, and not the circuit, any auto specialties store will sell "generic" replacement lighters (the part you grasp and pull out), and 90% of the time, the lighter itself is the problem - they "burn out". If the problem is the lighter socket or circuit, I'd just write it off and forget about it.

How to remove Pontiac Sunfire lighter?

Without knowing the year of your car, I can offer only some general information. Is the lighter dead? You're looking to repair it? Before you dig out the jaws of life to get at the lighter socket, check the fuse to be sure it's still OK. If so, I'd try buying a replacement element for the lighter. They are very available at parts stores and should screw to your existent knob. If replacing the element doesn't solve your problem, it probably means that the socket has died. They do that. Getting at the socket might be a challenge. In my '96, the lighter is mounted forward of the shifter in the console. It looks like I'd have to take quite a bit of plastic apart to get at it. If this is the case on your car, just go slowly, be careful and put all the little screws in a jar so you don't lose them. Once you get to the socket, removal and replacement should be fairly obvious.

Why does a cigarette lighter blow fuses when you put it in?

This is usually caused by a bad socket. When you put the lighter in it grounds out the positive and negative wires. Change out the socket and lighter and it will work fine.

My cigarette lighter connection don't work You know problem for thiscI use this connectors for my satellite reciver gps charger my cell phone etc please help me?

Either the fuse has blown or there is a burnt connection at the lighter socket. If the fuse is blown, you could be overloading the socket. You should consider putting in an additional socket on a separate fuse.
