When did China take over Tibet?

In the twelfth century, the Mongol Empire rose to power and expanded aggressively. Sakyapa, or the Stripe sect, was quite powerful among all the sects at that time. The Mongol Emperor negotiated with the abbot of Sakyapa and assisted him to become the ruler of Tibet. From then on, Tibet became an appendage of the Mongol Empire. In 1254, Kublai Khan granted supreme authority over Tibet to the leader of Sakyapa. Sakya Pandit was appointed to become the imperial preceptor and a high official in his court. Tibet was thus incorporated as one of the 13 provinces of China.---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------Communist China became the controlling power in Tibet in 1950.

Why did China take over Tibet?

Well, China is not the first to conquer Tibet, although the Chinese did occupy Tibet briefly in the 600s. The first people to completely conquer Tibet is the Mongols in the 1200s. But the Mongols in China ended up becoming sinicized (became Chinese) as do almost every other nomadic tribes that conquered China. So they established a Chinese dynasty called the Yuan and Tibet is incorporated to the Mongol Chinese Yuan empire. The Yuan dynasty only lasted 80 years and then a peasant rebellion in China kicked the Mongols back to the Gobi Desert. A new Chinese dynasty(Ming) is established and continued to rule Tibet for the next 300 hundred years. When the Ming dynasty ended in 1644, the Manchus(a former vassal of the Ming emperors) unified China and they also ruled Tibet. So all in all, Tibet was part of the Chinese empire for 800 years. In 1911, the last Chinese dynasty was toppled and a republic was formed. However, a year later civil war begin in the republic as each province of china seceded from the union and ruled in de-facto independence, the ruler of these independence regions was called the Warlords and they fought each other for control of China. During this time, Tibet also had de-facto independence like every other province of China. China went from the warlord era to World War II( against the Japs) and then to the fighting between Communists and the Nationalists( from 1945-1949). The Communists won and unified China( including Tibet) for the first time in 40 years. So depends on what time period you are talking about. Why did the Communists conquer Tibet( well as part of their unification process). Why the Yuan dynasty, MIng dynasty, or the Qing dynasty conquer Tibet( to expand the territory of the Empire)

What is a Tibet?

There's no such thing as "a" Tibet. Tibet is a country. Tibet is a plateu region in Asia, the highest region on earth. Sometimes it's even referred to as the "roof of the world". Also, it's a very religious country. Religion is extremely important to the Tibetans and has a strong influence over the country and its people's lives. In fact, a lot of Tibetan art depicts Buddha or other visions of religious significance. The "Dalai Lama" is a well-known term for a lineage of religious rulers. For a long while, however, China has owned Tibet, claiming that Tibet was originally a part of China. It was their excuse for invasion. This is a very controversial issue, especially considering recent archaelogical evidence that hints otherwise, but for the time being Tibet stays under China's rule ====================== Tibet is NOT a country. To be a country, it has to be accepted by other countries as being so. Currently NO countries in the world recognize Tibet as a country. In fact, official maps from the West in the last few hundred years all show Tibet as part of China In other words, Tibet has been part of China for at least a few hundred years. This would therefore invalidate the claim that China invaded Tibet in 1950. There is one example of the map of China produced by the US government in 1944 at time index 3:04 from the video clip in the related links section below this answer.

They suffer a lot. No autonomy, no freedom of speech and religion for those Tibetians living in Tibet, China. Those are in exile in India (incld. Dalai Lama), they have no land of their own. Just are refugees.

Why do china and Tibet hate each other?

Tibet currently isnt a seperate country, it is part of China. the reasons the Tibetan people hate the Chinese government are pretty legitimate and straight forward. During Mao's rule, Tibet was invaded and taken over by Chinese rule. the Chinese claim they had the right to the land all along, as tibet was really just part of China. The Tibetans ,lol, strongly disagree that this was the case, as Tibet had everything it needed to be its own government before China took over including its own government and flag. China doesnt like how the Tibetans are so religious and are incredibly loyal to the Dali Lama, as this weakens their authority as a government. To deal with this threat, China has persecuted the Tibetans by confining them to forever stay in Tibet ( if you were a Tibetan farmer for example, you could never get a job in outside of Tibet and might be killed for leaving). CHina has many other ways it has persecuted the Tibetans, including exiling their religious leader to India, but the long and short of it is Tibetans want to be Tibetans, China wants them to be Chinese and the Tibetans are such a culturally salient group that they don't want to stop and are fighting for their freedom. most of this fighting is in the form of protests by Tibetans setting themselves on fire. However, the Dali Lama has told the Buddhist people of Tibet to stop seeking freedom from china, so much of the protesting has stopped.
